People may complain of numbness at their little and ring finger. Progressively, the patient may experience difficulty to do fine motions.
This is caused by compression of the ulnar nerve at the elbow. In the initial stages (first couple of months) the patients are advised to avoid elbow flexion in the daily activities. However, if symptoms persist and moreover when dexterity is lost surgery is mandatory without delay.
In surgery simple release of the nerve may suffice whereas in some cases transposition of the ulnar nerve may be required.
Prognosis is usually favorable provided surgical intervention is done early enough to avoid non reparable nerve damage. No cast or splint is applied postoperatively.
